MIL-STD-810 is a US military standard that ensures equipment can withstand environmental stresses and other specific conditions under which it may face throughout its service life. This is completed by mimicking the impacts those environments will have on the product.
Although MIL-STD-810 originated in the 1950s for testing military equipment, the standard has thereafter expanded to cover consumer electronics to showcase the durability of devices such as rugged phones and smartwatches.
There is a broad range of tests required to determine whether a product meets MIL-STD-810H standards, including how the device holds up in high and low temperatures, rain, humidity, fungus, rust, salt frog, sand and dust, explosive atmospheres, shock, and so on.
